This year will mark the first 100 years since Australia's involvement in World War I. Red poppies were adopted as an important symbol of remembrance, the story and continued commemoration of those who served being both unique and ever-present. This remembrance has been the source of inspiration for two Melbourne-based knitters who began knitting and crocheting poppies as a personal tribute to loved ones who had served. To commemorate a century since the end of World War I, a final display will be crafted at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra in November 2018.

Community Connect held its first Knit In earlier this month, and our next get-together will be on Wednesday 13 December. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come along to our knit-in, whether you are an experienced knitter or a beginner.
